Fleet Week Houston: Family-Friendly Events You Don’t Want to Miss
If you’re looking for something fun, different, and memorable to do with the kids, Fleet Week Houston is packed with options. From ship tours and aircraft displays to live music, festivals, and hands-on experiences, there’s a little bit of everything happening across the city.
Here are some of the best family-friendly events to check out:
You can watch Navy ships sail into the Houston Ship Channel to kick things off, which is such a cool experience for kids who love anything big and moving. There are also opportunities to tour real active-duty ships (best for older kids), where they can see firsthand what life is like onboard.
If your kids are into planes, the aircraft display at the Lone Star Flight Museum is a must. You’ll be able to get up close to real Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard aircraft, plus explore the museum while you’re there.
There are also several easy, low-key options if you just want to get out of the house without overplanning. Think outdoor concerts, live music in the park, and performances by Navy bands in beautiful settings like the Botanic Garden and the Museum of Fine Arts.
Looking for something more high-energy? The Fleet Week EXPO is a great one-stop option with hands-on experiences, demonstrations, and plenty to explore. There’s also a Naval Showcase at Sylvan Beach Park with live action demos, military working dogs, and interactive displays that kids will love.
And if you want something that feels more like a fun family outing, there are events like a backyard-style carne asada in the East End, a street festival in Seabrook with a drone show at dusk, and a free concert featuring Houston’s own The Suffers.
The best part is that many of these events are free, making it easy to mix and match a few throughout the week depending on your schedule (and your kids’ energy levels).
