Meet a Mom: Dr. Chi Mba of Chi Family Dental | South Houston Moms

This weeks Meet a Mom interview is with Dr. Chi Mba of Missouri City! Dr. Chi, proud mother of five, owns and manages Chi Family Dental located off Hwy 6 in the Sienna area. We asked Dr. Chi to share about juggling motherhood and a business, self care and what inspired her to enter the field of dentistry. We think you’ll be surprised to learn about the one thing people don’t know about her!

If you could describe yourself in one word, what would it be and why?
Grateful: I am so grateful to God and to the people that helped me to be who I am today emotionally.

What part of town do you live in and what made you decide to live there?
Sugar Land/Missouri city area, nothing specific, just close to my Practice and where God made a way at this point. I have 5 children, 4 girls and a boy. The first daughter is 20, 19, 17,14, and my 12 year old son.

What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
A lot, but I think people may be surprised to know that I have never had a cup of coffee before.

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?
God and anyone that has ever crossed my path. I feel like every encounter with people brings fresh knowledge.

What do you do for self care?
Pray, read, work out and watch House shows on Netflix.

That’s Awesome! Self care is hard to prioritize and it looks like you’ve got it figured out. What inspired you to enter the field of dentistry?
It’s so funny because I get this question a lot. I was a PhD student at Baylor College of Medicine at a time. The plan was to be a college professor and do cancer research. Life happened. Long story short, my kids’ Dentist at the time told me that I will make a good dentist. She mentored me and the rest is history. Since then, I have had great women dentists hold my hand and guide me through this incredible journey. I love being a dentist and I am grateful that God put those women along my path.

What is your best advice for juggling motherhood and working.
Just do one thing at a time! Focus on the task at the moment. Multitasking is overrated and can lead to poorly executed tasks.

What is something you would tell the “old you” before you had kids?
Just enjoy your time now, there is time for everything. Don’t rush into motherhood too quickly.

Funniest shortcut or routine for helping you through parenthood?
I am not sure if it is funny but attend to your kids, one kid at a time. Get some alone time for yourself.

We love to support local businesses. What is your favorite place in the Sugar Land, Pearland/Friendswood areas to:

Go to dinner with your kids: V Lotus Bistro
Go for girls night: I let my friends pick because I don’t go out that often.
Have a date night: Need to find the date first (LOL).
Have fun as a family: We just like to cook from our garden and drive around to look at expansive houses that we cannot afford but just get a feel as to how rich people live (LOL).
Get your hair done: A1 Braids
Get your nails done: Sienna Nails
Get a facial: Linda Dang (Forever Young Skin Care)
Shop for yourself: Funny but Ross and Marshalls are still my favorite stores
Shop for your kids: I am not sure any more, they go with their big sister
