We asked, you voted! In November of 2022, we held nominations and a big vote on the finalists for South Houston Moms 2023 Choice Photographer! Sneha George Photography was our winner and we are so excited to share more about her! Sneha is sharing all about mom life as a photog, her best advice to a mom wanting to start her own business, and what she would tell her “old self” before she had kids.
If you could describe yourself in one word, what would it be and why?
Passionate. Passion is what drives my motivation. I strive to find passion in every aspect of my life, whether that’s in motherhood, my career, my photography business, or my social life.
What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I don’t know how to swim. So you will find me in the shallow side of the pool with my kids haha.
So, tell us all about your photography business!
I pretty much photograph anyone and anything, whether it is newborn sessions, proposals, seniors, families, or even small events. My overall style of portrait photos are posed, sprinkled in with sweet candid shots. If you have a chance to look at my portfolio, you will notice that I have a more organic edit. I love to keep as much of the true color in pictures, while also finishing it with a crisp, bright, and airy look. Recently I have been sprinkling in some moody vibes as well.
What inspired you to take up photography?
I have always loved snapping and sharing pictures. In high school, my dad gifted me my first digital camera (a compact, point and shoot camera). Whether it was at family gatherings, road trips, school events, or among friends, that camera went everywhere with me. Then once I was in college, I was gifted a DSLR camera, at which time I started to teach myself how to use the camera and took free “sessions” of my family.
What are the top three questions you recommend we ask a photographer before booking with them?
1) Gallery turnaround expectation, that way if there is a time-sensitive reason to have them edited sooner, the photographer can try their best to meet that timeline.
2) Ask questions on outfit coordination and inspiration.
3) What their editing style is, to ensure it fits their vision.
As you know, mom life is busy! How do you balance being a mom and running a business?
Since this is a weekend business for me, I block my bookings to only half the month in order to save half the month for family time. During the week, I schedule out other tasks once things around the home and kids are done. By nature, I am a night owl, so a lot of editing is done once the kids are in bed. I also maximize the village I have around me for support if I have any schedule conflicts. I am always grateful for help.
What is your best advice to a mom who’d like to open her own business?
Do it. If not yesterday then why not today? If it is something you are passionate about, it will be something you will enjoy developing and growing. Expect to make sacrifices and compromises upfront, but it will be worth it. Also, follow other mompreneurs who fit your interests, this can be inspiring, enriching, and motivating for you as you start your own business.
What is something you would tell the “old you” before you had kids?
Having mini versions of you isn’t too bad. But, enjoy those guilt-free naps and downtime you had because those are either rare or hit differently as a mom.
Your best shortcut or routine for helping you through parenthood.
It’s okay to break the rules from time to time. Forget dinner tonight and have takeout. If the laundry goes over a couple of days, it is okay. Be freely present rather than present and stressed.
Is there anything we should know about your booking process?
You can book via my website or via any of the social media platforms (Instagram and Facebook). I look forward to meeting new families this year 🙂
