MOPS & Jamie Johnson | South Houston Moms

We all know how difficult it can be to find Mom friends. Thanks to Jamie and her MOPS group (Mothers of Preschoolers), Mamas get a chance to connect and let their littles play. If you’re interested in meeting up, check out their social media for their meeting times and locations!

How many children do you have and what are their ages?
I have two boys. One is three and the other is 7 months old.

How long have you lived in Pearland? What made you decide to live here?
We moved here 3 years ago.  We were drawn to the area because it was a reasonable commute to our jobs and we just felt at home.  We absolutely love it!

Where’s your favorite place to eat and/or shop in your Pearland?
I am a Home Goods addict and love to eat sushi.  So, Mongo is high on our list of favorites.

What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I love to sing karaoke in the car.  It’s my little secret. Well… was my little secret.

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?
All my mom friends! It’s been a game changer for me to develop a circle of mom friends that relate to the parenting journey and can share tips and tricks.  Mostly, I just appreciate not being the only one trying to juggle all the craziness that being a parent can bring. The support system has been wonderful and I love them all.

How has the Pearland community been instrumental in getting you where you are now?

We have found a church in the area that has been a great way to get to know other people in the community and find friends in the area.  Also, we love using the parks and other types of recreation for family activities. It makes it easy to spend quality time with my family.

Where do you go locally for pampering or a Mom’s night out?
I like to go get the occasional pedicure and/or margarita.  It’s even better if I could do them both the same day! Nails of America is my go-to nail salon and Jimmy Changas is where I go to have a margarita with crazy kiddos. If you give them a playground and some free ice cream, they are happy campers.

Please tell us about MOPS (Moms of Preschoolers):

MOPS is an international organization that facilitates the creation of “mom groups” all over, specifically for moms with young kids.  It allows moms to connect with other moms in a faith centered environment and build a support network. Being a mom is hard work and it is way more fun if you have people next to you on the journey that are going through the same thing.

When I had my first son, I struggled to balance my new mom duties and work and found it really difficult to find opportunities for me to connect with other moms outside of my working hours.  So, I approached my church with the idea to form an evening group in addition to their daytime MOPS group and they said yes. Everything else is history and we have a wonderful group of moms attending.  They are so fun.

Where do you meet and how often:
We meet at Redeemer Church on Highway 6 on every other Tuesday at 6pm.  We also have a daytime group that meets every other Friday at 9:30.

What do meetups include? What do Moms do at the meetups? What are the benefits of joining?
At our regular meetings, we bring in speakers to talk about relevant mom topics, eat food without being interrupted and sometimes get crafty.  Every meeting is a little different but it is always focused on building relationships with each other and supporting one another while deepening our relationship ith Christ.

In addition to our meetings, we get together for mom’s night out events and playdates.

For me, the biggest benefit of joining MOPS has been finding my people and having fun while doing it.  I now have people that can appreciate my tired eyes and goldfish laden floors. We remind each other that we are great moms and encourage each other on our journeys.  We pray for each other and learn together. They say raising kids takes a village. Well… this is my village.
